Outdoor Leisure Concepts' products have been featured at Bethel Woods since 2007, but the site's rich history reaches further back; back to 1969, to be exact. During August 15-18, 1969, a crowd of nearly half a million flooded the town of Bethel, New York for "three days of peace and music" at the historic Woodstock music festival. Although the planners originally wanted to hold the festival in the namesake village, a large enough venue could not be found. They instead leased some land near Middletown, New York but through a last minute turn of events, the festival was held at an alfalfa field with a natural bowl shape in the town of Bethel. Woodstock festival featured artists such as Richie Havens, Janis Joplin, Arlo Guthrie, Joe Cocker, Joan Baez, Creedance Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, and Jimi Hendrix, among others. Although the crowds tend to be smaller these days, Bethel Woods still hosts famous musicians, including The Eagles, Sting, Phish, Zac Brown Band, Dave Matthews Band, and Jimmy Buffett, just to name a few. Bethel Woods also hosts Mysteryland USA, an electronic music festival, each year. Bethel Woods is much more than a concert venue, as a not-for-profit cultural center that inspires, educates, and empowers individuals through the arts and humanities, Bethel Woods is home to many events such as seasonal festivals, movie nights, special museum exhibits, and community and educational events. Bethel Woods Center for the Arts truly has something for everyone.
